Project of the Month
"Intralogistics for a Next-Generation Production Facility"
The backbone of reliable, automated material flow
INITIAL SITUATION
The project focused on designing and implementing the intralogistics concept for a newly built, highly automated kitchen furniture production facility.
Given the automation level, the operation depends on extremely reliable material supply, full real-time transparency of material locations, completeness, and availability, and seamless integration into the newly introduced MES, including cart and bin control.
APPROACH
- Analysis of transport cycles and material quantities
- Definition of clear, standardized material routes
- Design of material buffers with unambiguous location assignments
- Selection of a flexible aluminum profile system for custom transport solutions
- Design of transport carts prepared for future AGV (FTS) integration
- Development, build, and testing of transport cart prototypes
SOLUTION HIGHLIGHTS
- Modular transport carts tailored to different component types (e.g., fronts, drawer bottoms, frames)
- Clearly defined staging zones for assembly and packaging (batch-based logic)
- Structured material routing aligned with shopfloor layout and forklift access
- MES-ready cart and location logic to ensure traceability and control
- Future-proof design enabling a smooth transition to automated transport (AGVs)
CUSTOMER BENEFITS
- Reliable, on-time material provision to all production areas
- Elimination of searching and manual coordination efforts
- Damage-free transport of sensitive components
- High flexibility through in-house adaptable transport equipment
- Clear foundation for further automation of internal material flow
